Prisoner Asks For Leave To Marry
[Per Press Association Copyright .] AUCKLAND. Tuesday.
An uncommon request that the Judge make the direction, when sentencing the prisoner, that he be given brief leave, under supervision, to be married, was made by Mr Noble, on behalf of the prisoner, Edward Donovan, charged with breaking and entering and being in possession of house-breaking implements. After having sentenced the prisoner to a long period of imprisonment, Mr Justice Fair referred to the request for the opportunity to marry. “That matter,” he said, “can be considered by the authority. I don’t feel disposed to say anything in favour of the application.”
