Kaikohe v. Russell: Ladies’ Golf Match

A delightful gelling day was spent on the Waitangi links on July 24, when lady members of the Kaikohe Golf Club were the guests of the Russell ladies for the day. The Russell Golf Club captain, Miss M. Williams, of Paihia, welcomed the visitors on their arrival. Mrs Edwards, of Kaikohe, suitably responding. The ladies then settled down to the serious side of the day’s programme, playing a Kaikohe v. Russell match over 18 holes. The match finished up all-sqare, the cards reading as follows with the visitors being mentioned first: — Mrs P. Williams lost to Mrs S. W. Blomfield, 4 and 3; Mrs A. Edwards lost to Miss M. Williams, 5 and 4; Mrs Garner lost to Mrs H. J, Keenan, 3 and 4; Mrs Bainbridge defeated Mrs

Strang. 6 and 4; Miss Newman lost to Mrs Cross, 2 and 1; Miss Dickcson defeated Miss E. Studholmc. 3 and 2; Miss McKorras beat Mrs Teixeira, 5 and 4; Miss Eiscnlmt beat Miss Fell, 5 and 3. Miss M. Williams (Paihia) and Mrs S. W. Blomlield i Russell', tied for the trophy for the best nett score of the day, each with a 75. Following afternoon tea a novelty scramble over several holes caused much amusement and ended a perfect day.

Mid-Winter Swimmers, In spite of the inclement weather of late, two residents of Long Beach, Russell, still go down ror their regular swims. “We certainly don’t stay in long.” said one of them, “but the water isn't so terribly cold. We are just not as young as we used to be.” These two hardy specimens are men well beyond the prime of life in age, if not in spirit.
