Fancy Dress Ball At Wellsford

On Monday night, a fancy dress ball, organised by the Ladies’ Division of the New Zealand National Party, took place at Wellsford, and was a splendid success. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, the attendance was large and the party a merry one. The fancy dresses reflected great crediton the efforts of the wearers', and the judges found themselves faced with a difficult task in selecting the winners. Prizes were awarded as follows: Best couple: Mr and Mrs Kirk (Spanish gentleman and pierette); most original lady: Mrs Grice (old-time Maori lady). A cowboy, with steel guitar, sang several songs. Mr A. J. Murdoch, candidate for the National Party, in a short address, complimented the ladies of the party who had organised the function, and presented the - prizes to the winners, to whom, in doing so. he offered his congratulations.
