Vessels Sheltering At Russell

Tuesday was one of the worst days experienced in Russell this winter, a heavy easterly gale accompanying driving rain, which commencing before dawn, fell without cessation all day, culminating in a severe electrical disturbance late in the evening. The Northern Company’s steamer Clansman arrived in port on' Tuesday morning after a very rough trip up the coast from Auckland. So bad was the weather after discharge of cargo that Captain Bark elected to shelter in port until abatement. The Clansman continued her trip well before dawn on Wednesday. Another stranger which has been sheltering at Russell since Sunday is ■the Auckland fishing trawler Fox 11. The trawler was weather-bound at Hohoura for nearly a week and essayed a return to Auckland, but particularly severe weather and heavy seas in the vicinity of Cape Brett caused a further run to shelter.
