Bloodshed In Porto Rico

NEW YORK, July 25. National extremists at San Juan, capital of Porto Rico, attempting to assassinate the Governor, Major-Gener-al Blanton Winship, at a fete on the 40th anniversary of the American occupation of the island. The Governor was not injured. From among the crowd, which numbered 100,000, a fusillade of shots bespattered the reviewing stand, killing a National Guard officer and wounding three native officials. The police then fired on the crowd, killing one of the assailants and wounding many of the onlookers. The police later announced the arrest of a second assailant. A third is declared to have escaped.
