Yesterday’s activity on the Stock Exchange was maintained throughout the day and up to the first call this morning, at which another good list of sales was put through. Values as a whole were steady, with the exception of Government stocks, which are quoted lower all round than was the case a week ago. At this morning’s call, Australian Industrials were in steady demand, but offers for metal shares were shaded down. Colonial Sugars were very firm, and buyers advanced to £4B, with lowest sellers 17/6 higher. Insurances were more active, both New Zealand and South British holding the recent, advances. In the banking section, New Zealands were offered 3d lower, at 43/3, buyers unchanged at 43/. Taranaki Oils were firm between 13/9 and 14/, and Farmers’ Trading shares were offered 2d cheaper, at 20/1. Sales completed at the noon call today were: New Zealand Insurances, £2 17/; South British, £2 6/6; Dominion Breweries, £1 15/3; Tooth’s Breweries, £2 15/-; Gear Meat, 14/4; Peters Ice Cream, £1 3/; Woolworths holdings, 15/8; Broken Hill South, £1 13/3; stock, 43-46, £102; stock, March, 39-43, £IOO 5/; Auckland.
