Lord Runciman, previously President of the British Board of Trade, has been requested by Czechoslovakia to preside over a conference called to solve the dispute between the Czech Government and the Sudeten Germans. His advice is expected to play an important part in the deliberations. He was born at South Shields in 1870 and has been prominently associated with shipping and banking all his life.
