Fire At Seacliff
[Per Press Association. Copyright. l DUNEDIN, This Day. A fire of considerable proportion occurred at the Seacliff Mental Hospital just before 5 o’clock this morning, completely destroying the dining rooms used by some 50 patients. It was in the female patients’ dining room that the fire originated. One of the oldest buildings in the institution! it was situated in the courtyard. At one stage the fire threatened one wing of the main building. The alarm bell of the institution brought considerable assistance from the township, so that, with the warders, there were some 60 fii’e-fighters available. There is an effective water supply with a 601 b pressure, so that the outbreak was under control in 20 minutes. Some of the women patients nearest the fire were alarmed, but most of the inmates were unaware of the outbreak. This is only the third fire at the hospital in 30 years.
