Launches Instead Of Cars
When Mr Ces. Wright and his fellow bandsmen left for Parakao last night they had no idea ot what lay before them. Arriving at a spot about three miles from Parakao. their car ran into flood waters, which threatened to bar further progress. Undaunted by this set-back, however, the party removed shoes and sox and proceeded to help the car along - its sticky route. Arrived at the dance hall they were faced with a shoeless predicament, which was overcome by the timely provision of gumboots. Tieturning home after the function, the party again ran into flood water, this time at Fraser’s Flat. All around them lay a sea"6f water, and it looked
i like an all-night wail for the wearied i swings tors. However, they were equal | to the occasion, and soon had divested j themselves ot outer garments and I were heaving their way through the | rising waters. At approximately 5.45 a.m. they arrived in Whangarei debating a suggestion to sell the car and buy a motor-launch.
