N.S.W. Miners Plan General Strike
SYDNEY. July 2(3. The newspapers are giving prominence to plans for a general strike of coal miners, who are demanding; a 20-hour week, a pension scheme for miners, greater safety measures, better protection against dust and other reforms. A conference of the minors’ executive with the colliery proprietors to discuss the claims has been fixed for August 4. In the meantime, the miners arc quietly arranging for credits and sustenance to tide them over a protracted period in the event of the failure of the conference and a gen- j oral' hold-up. ’ ; IVfr W. Orr, the miner’s general j secretary, estimates that, the union 1 will have credit of over £200.000.
