The outstanding feature of the series of county cricket games which began on Wednesday was the big score of 631 for four wickets, by Sussex against Northants, at Northampton. All four batsmen dismissed reached three figures. Results and best performances:— Gloucester v. Surrey. —Gloucester: First innings, 487 for five declared (Allen 98, Crapp 80, Emmett 165 not out); second innings. 114 (Squires five for 37). Surrey: First innings, 462 (Gregory 81); second innings, 140 for five. Surrey won by five wickets. Hampshire v. Y/orkshire—Hampshire: First innings, 199 (Wilkinson 7 for 68); second innings, 211 (Robinson 6 for 73). Yorkshire: First innings, 254 (Barber 111); second innings, 159 for three. Yorkshire won by seven wickets. Glamorgan v. Kent. — Glamorgan: First innings, 271 (Smart 92; Watts six for 80); second inning, s 186. Kent: First innings, 347 (Fagg 118, Woolley 73; Matthews 7 for 100); second innings, 113 for three. Kent won by seven wickets. Somerset v. Leicester. — Somerset: First innings, 190; second innings, 356 for nine declared (Jones 106, Luckes 90 not out). Leicester: First innings, 358 (Berry 92); second, 76 for four. Leicester won in the first innings. Essex v. Notts. —Essex: First innings, 58 (Voce five for 19); second innings, 343 (Avery 136), Notts: First I innings, 242 (Gunn 87; Nichols, 6 for [87); second, 148 (P.
