Royal Visit Tightens Anglo-French Bonds
RUGBY July 23. The President of France, M. Lebrun, sent the following telegram to the King and Queen; “I thank Your Majesties with very deep emotion for the touching message you sent me yesterday. I shall be happy to convey to the Government and the French people the sentiments Your Majesties so kindly expressed following those unforgettable days in Paris. “The entire French people welcomed Your Majesties with enthusiasm, and your visit will always remain engraved in their memories as the most striking incident of the bond which unites our two countries, which, after having shared the same trials, pursue with the same ideal of liberty a common policy for prosperity and general peace,” All the newspapers in leading articles point to the triumphant success of the royal visit to France. “The Times” says; “The visit indicates that Britain and France are still comrades in the appeasement of the European nations and the establishment of peace through justice. The two Governments agreed last April to collaborate in the defence not only of their common interests, but also of those ideals of national and international life uniting them. There exists between them a partnership which technically is something less than an alliance, and physologically is something more.”
