Seen Just In Tims
tSpecin) to “Northern Advocate.”] HAMILTON. This Day. When a goods train bound for Frankton was proceeding a little south cf Mercer on Thursday night, the driver saw a dark mass ahead in the beam of his engine’s headlight, and immediately applied the brakes. It was found that a slip covered the line to a depth of ten feet, over a distance of 20 yards. Working by the headlights of two locomotives, between 30 and 40 men loaded the soil into lorries and dumped it into the Waikato River. By 5.45 a.m. a cutting had been madethrough the slip sufficient to allow traffic to pass. The work was continued all day yesterday, and traffic was able to proceed.
