THE VEGETABLE GARDEN Sow peas, turnips, red beet, parsnip, carrot, cabbage. Sew tomatoes in boxes in a warm, sheltered' place. Sow lettuce in boxes. Plant out sprouted and greened potatoes. Manure rhubarb beds. Animal manure is best. Plant out onions. Plant Jerusalem artichokes; also asparagus. Put out a few tomato plants in a warm, sheltered position. Plant cabbage and cauliflower when the soil is workable. Sow cucumbers, marrows, and pumpkins under glass for early crop. Hand-weed the strawberry bed. Plant fruit trees. Leave citrus planting until next month. Continue to prune and spray fruit trees. A dressing of blood-and-bone will benefit the strawberry bed. $■ THE FLOWER GARDEN Continue to prune roses; also plant roses, and put in cuttings. Put in hard-wooded cuttings of shrubs and climbers. Prune macrocarpa hedges. Gladioli may be planted any time now. In soil inclined to be 1 wet, cover the corms with sand, as tliey are liable to rot during a wet spell. Nemesias should be planted only in well-drained, sunny and sheltered positions. They do well planted close together. Anemones, violets and Iceland poppies that are flowering, should not be allowed to form seed-heads, which are very exhausting to the plants. Sweet peas may be sown in boxes.
