Little Flooding On Northland Roads

After the exceptionally heavy rain of Wednesday, the sky this morning has cleared and the rainfall for the 24 hours to 9 a.m. today was only .03 inch. Although the solid rain earlier in the week brought up many streams to flood levels, road users suffered comparatively little inconvenience. In some country areas settlers found difficulty in getting their stores through. Generally, however, the main routes were open. Russell Road Clear. This morning the Russell service car "was through to time reporting no difficulty except at Whakapara where there were 18 inches of water across the main road. ; ... The service car from. the Mangakahia arrived according to schedule. The waters in this area went down quickly. At Fraser’s Flat there were 10 inches of water across the road but traffic was getting through. Kawakawa was reported to be clear this morning. At 11 a.m. the Dargaville Road was still blocked although the Houto route was open for traffic.
