Paris Takes Royal Visitors To Its Heart
(Received 8.30 a.m.) PARIS, July 21. The city has taken Their Majesties to its heart. Parisians are delighted at the interest the Royal visitors have shown in everything, and the newspapers emphasise how the population’s respect has deepened to affection, as has been demonstrated by the joyous acclamations during the visit to the opera and, also Their Majesties’ return to the Quai d’ Orsay Palace, when they appeared on a balcony for a few moments to see the magnificently floodlit city, and watch the silver lit fountains playing. Crowds who were also keeping festival recognised and tumultuously cheered Their Majesties, who delayed their departure from the balcony while they smiled happily and waved their hands. The Police Prefecture estimates that over 2,500,000 of the population of Paris visited the centre of the city last night to cheer King George and Queen Elizabeth, exceeding any as-i semblage since the Armistice. The Queen today visited the British hospital of La Vallois, and inaugurated a ward built to commemorate the Coronation.
