The death occurred yesterday of Captain Thomas W. Edlington, aged 65, at his residence, 15 Elizabeth Street, Ponsonby. Captain Edlington farmed for many years at the Great Barrier Island, and during his residence there was a well-known figure in the community. Recently he had been employed as a temporary second mate on the Northern Steamship Company’s steamer Claymore, to Whangarei.
Intending to establish permanent residence in Whangarei, Mr and Mrs F. J. Parson, for many years • residents of Christchurch, have arrived here. From occasional visits in the past, Mr Parson stated this morning, he had been charmed with the beauty of Northland, and both he and his wife considered that this part of the Dominion was the best in which retired people could take up an abode. In their desire to make a home here, the Southerners are confronted with the housing shortage.
