Support Moerewa

At the annual meeting of the Ruawai Co-op. Dairy Company suppliers yesterday, Mr W. M. Garland, representative of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company, in a short address, stressed the necessity for supporting the Moerewa freezing works and of continuing to do so. He pointed out that if they were not supported to the full extent the company would be faced* with the alternative of increasing charges or closing down the Moerewa branch. The effect of the industry at Moerewa had been to increase competition for the farmers’ stock, and consequently to secure better prices for them than would obtain if the works were not there. Under present conditions of labour, costs had risen very considerably, and in order to secure full value for the expenditure, it was necessary to keep the works going to full capacity. The reduced killings at Moerewa during the past year had caused his board of directors considerable concern, and he hoped that the farmers would again accord the works the same support as they had done in former years. The chairman and Mr C. Robinson also spoke, endorsing what Mr Garland had said.
