Dairy Company And Petrol Sales
The action taken by the Maungatapere Co-operative Dairy Company in fixing the price of petrol sold to suppliers was reviewed by the chairman of directors, Mr L. Reynolds, when reporting to the annual meeting of suppliers yesterday. “From April 16 last our price has been fixed at the same level as the Whangarei Resellers’ Association and in line with the price charged by the Whangarei 'and Hikurangi Dairy Company. In lieu of the Id per gallon preference previously allowed to suppliers, the directors propose, as from June 1 last, making a rebate to suppliers on the total trading account profits. To make a rebate on petrol or fertiliser only, except to all suppliers of shareholders,' irrespective of whether they have been purchasers, is illegal, and would render the company liable to a fine of £IOOO. “To make a rebate on trading profits is, however, quite in order. The National Dairy Association has tried to have the law amended, but so far without results. Under both the motor spirit the fertiliser regulations profits cannot be legally rebated to the individual purchaser, but must be repaid into the general trading funds of the company,. “In deciding to sell at a local uniform price, the directors were influenced by the consideration that without a uniform level it was fairly evident that this district would have been constituted a proclaimed area and the price fixed by the Bureau of Industry and Commerce. Had that happened, the price would probably have been higher than it is today.”
