Dairy Company To Support Blind Institute
The decision to make a levy of 1/per supplier as a contribution to the funds of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, Auckland, was reached at the annual general meeting of suppliers of the Maungatapere Co-op. Dairy Company, Ltd., yesterday. A letter from the institute stated that suppliers of the Taihape Company were already making a donation of a percentage of their returns, and it was hoped that this lead would be followed by other companies. The letter outlined the work of the institute in caring for the blind not only in the institute itself but also in all parts of New Zealand. “This seems, to be a very worthy appeal,” said the chairman of directors, Mr L. Reynolds, who remarked that if every company in the Dominion would donate 1/- from each of their suppliers a considerable sum would result. “While there is a danger of creating a precedent the institute is doing excellent work,” said Mr Hugh Morrison. “The blind people are doing much to help themselves, and this seems the least we can do for them.” In addition to the official decision of the meeting, suppliers present offered to make individual donations to the fund.
