Professor of Economics at the Auckland University College, confessed to uneasiness tit mind, in that the Budget was based on the record value of farm production and exports, tie commented on die enormous increase in revenue from taxation and in expenditure during the past six years, and said he was concerned as to the possibility of permanently maintaining expenditure at the present level, "The financial slack seems already to have been taken up." he said, “and the problem of balancing the Budget and permanently maintaining the existing social expenditure will be very serious if the next depression is at. all substantial.”
