Hospital Needs 40 Per Cent. Dearer
[Special to “Northern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND. This Day. A report from the Finance Committee to the Auckland Hospital Board last night showed that the cost of obtaining the same quantities of bacon, bread, slack coal, fish, fowls, meat, and X-ray films had advanced by approximately 40 per cent, over the past three years. This will mean that an extra £7778 is required by the Board this year in comparison with 1935 to supply the institution under its control with these seven wide-used commodities. Mention was also made of the high cost to the board of sales tax and duty. The latter was not charged to Government Departments or mental hospitals. and it was stated that representation had been made to the Health Department. The board expressed the opinion that hospitals should bo exempt from such charges as these, and it was decided to press for their abolition.
