O’Reilly Skittles Notts

(Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 18. The Australian cricketers today resumed their match against Nottinghamshire, the county having four runs on the board at the close of play on Saturday for the loss of one wicket in reply to the visitors’ first innings total of 243. ' Wickets fell rapidly and Nottinghamshire had seven down for 65 after an hour and a half of play. The weather was fine after overnight rain. The wicket, which had been covered, appeared to play faster than on Saturday. Waite, O’Reilly and Fleetwood Smith all caused the batsmen anxiety. Harris lifted a ball from O’Reilly to cover, a simple catch. Hardstaff Soon Out. To the second ball of O’Reilly’s next over Hardstaff played weakly forward. It was a slow leg break of teasing length, and the batsman was clean bowled. Knowles was out leg before in Fleetwood Smith’s second over, after a timorous innings. Heane never looked capable of staying. Gunn was the only batsman so far to show class. He punished Fleetwood Smith, but Yates was always helpless against the bowler, who beat him three times before bringing about his dismissal.

Except for Gunn’s crackling aggression and Voce’s resolute hitting, the Nottingham batting was deplorable. Gunn', and Voce carried the lunch score from seven for 65 to eight for 145, when Gunn was caught in the covers. He batted for 110 minutes, giving no chance, and his display included 10 fours.

O’Reilly In Hostile Mood. Notts’ innings closed after 155 minutes. O’Reilly was in his most hostile mood and gave his best performance for some time. He continuously attacked and made the ball spin sharply. Fleetwood Smith also bowled well. Australia opened at 2.50. Badcock and Brown started quietly, but were not troubled by the bowling. The former soon got into his form, pulling and driving splendidly. Brown made many beautiful drives, and the pair put on 121 for the first wicket when Badcock was dismissed in 110 minutes. He scored seven fours. Brown followed 10 minutes later. He also scored seven fours. Hassett Quicker Than Bradman. Bradman and Hassett continued run-gathering at a steady rate and soon extracted any sting which might have remained in the bowling. Hassett. overtaking Bradman, scored a carefree 50 in an hour and the partnership was worth 100 after 65 minutes. Bradman's 50 took 80 minutes.
