New Pacific Liners

(Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 15. The chairman of the Canadian Pacific Railways, Sir Edward Beatty, who arrived in London last week for discussions with Britain and Dominion Government representatives in connection with the building of new Pacific liners, hopes to place a contract in England immediately for two 1 5,000 ton liners of 23 knots speed for the Canadian-Australian service. The total cost will be £3,000.000. A final agrement has not yet been reached as New Zealand has not accepted some minor features of the proposal, although others have been been agreed upon. Sir Edward said he replacement of the company’s Atlantic tonnage is under consideration, and it will possibly build a speedier -lister ship to the Empi-ess of Britain in 1940. Next year two Empresses will be built for the Hongkong services, to replace the Empress of Russia and the Empress of Asia. The company’s orders- for the next three years total £11.000,000.
