Abscesses In Stock
The primary cause of an abscess is ed part, to which they gain access by the presence of bacteria in the attackmeans of the blood, lymphatics, skin, etc. These bacteria probably pervade all the tissues of the body, which are usually able to resist their injurious influence as long as health is maintained. When, however, the vitality of the tissues becomes lowered by some form of injury, the bacteria overcome the resistance of the tissues, and pus is formed. Abscesses are of two
kinds —acute and chronic. In the former the abscess is very active and comes to a head quickly, whilst in the latter pus proceeds slowly without .narked symptoms of heat and tenderness. A treatment may be tried with the idea of checking its development; such as by the frequent application of eucalyptus oil, oil cf turpentine, or a mild blister. If this fails, and the abscess comes to a head and points, it should then be opened with a sharp, clean knife, allowing for good drainage. With the idea of bringing
it to a head quickly, the application of a poultice helps matters considerably, or, if that is not convenient, a little mustard and vinegar should be applied, rubbing it in for a few minutes.
Patrols to guide school children m dangerous main road crossings arc included in a safety scheme now under consideration for Surrey.
