Racing Club’s Successful Year

A successful year is again reviewed by the president of the Whangaroi Racing Club. Mr R. G. Hosking, in his report covering the year ended April 30. to be presented at the annual meeting of members, to bo held on Wednesday, July 27. “Both the spring and autumn meetings were an unqualified success." states Mr Hosking. “The totallsator investments amounted to £54,628, and £4720 10/- was paid in stakes and for the free transport of horses. Improvements to Course. “With the assistance of subsidised labour, Improvements involving considerable expenditure have been effected at Kensington Park. The racing frack has been extended and banked at the turns, and the removal of the hill is in progress. When the work is completed, it will make the course one of the best country race tracks in the Dominion. In addition, the recreation area will be increased considerably.” The report slated that during the year eight, members; tendered their resignations, while 15 new members were enrolled, thus giving n total membership of 101. The thanks of the club are again due to’the press for liberal space devoted r fo racing matters, and also to the New, Zealand Railways for excellent assistance in transport, Mr Hosking concluded. Under the rules, Mr R. G. Hosking (president), Mr L. W. Nelson (vicepresident) and Messrs J. A. S. MacKay, C. H. Finlayson, J. N. McCarroll, E. A. Sitnmons and A. J. Murdoch retire from the committee, and an election will be required. Messrs L. A. Johnson, J. T. Wall and T. A. Williams retire from the list of members stewards. After making provision for depreciation of £478 15/2, the finances of the Whangarei Racing Club show a surplus of £363 2/11, after the operations of the year ended on April 30. Capital expenditure, for the year amounted to £936 15/1, and following a settlement of the current liabilities, the bank balance at the close of the year will be £ll9l 15/10, compared with £1433 15/2 at the commencement.
The receipts from the spring meeting on November 5 and 6 totalled £5433 12/5, and after all expenses had been met there remained a net profit of £34,0... .At the autumn meeting on April 8 and 9 the receipts from various sources were £5997 10/5, and the net profit £421 8/4. The excess of income over expenditure for the year was £B4l 18/1. The club’s assets are valued at £9123 12/8, including £1704 10/4 in cash.
