Whangarei Plunket Society Meets

Owing chiefly to the prevalence of richness there was a very small attendance at the annual meeting of the Whangarei branch of the Plunket Society held yesterday afternoon in the Y.W.C.A. club rooms. The Mayor. Mr W. Jones, presided, and in commenting on the attendance, raid he was sure the few present did not denote a lack of interest in the good work of the society. Mrs D. J. Goodwin, the secretary, read the minutes, and correspondence. The president's report as already circulated was taken as read. New Officers. The election of officers resulted a£ follows: —-President, Mrs S. C. Thorne (re-elected); patron, Mr J. G. Barclay: vice-presidents, Mrs Jones, Mrs Christensen. Mrs Hawkins (Hikurangi) and Mrs L. J. Brake; secretary, Mrs Goodwin (re-elected); treasurer, Mrs A. Hart; general committee. Mesdames W. T. Surman, R. Stevenson. H. Cummings. E. Thomson, D. Ross. D. J. Thomson; social committee. Mesdames C. Wilson (Maunu), Keeble, Rowlands. Morton. Roos, Tapper, Singer, L. G. Miller, and L. Hall. Country representatives.—Maunu, Mesdames D. Wilson and McCarroll; Maungakaramea, Mrs F. Walker; Hikurangi, Mesdames McDonald and Armstrong; Kamo, Mesdames J. A. S. McKay andK. Wright; Maungatapere, Mesdames J. H. Morrison and Robison. Mr T. H. Steadman was re-elected hon. auditor, and the advisory board —Drs. Hall. Buckley, Goodwin, Armstrong and Messrs Thorne, J. Woolley, and T. H. Steadman—was also re-elected. Appreciation.

The president and secretary and also Nurse Thomas were thanked for their services during the past year, and Nurse Thomas expressed grateful thanks to the president, secretary and committee for their support. In addressing the meeting Mr Jones paid generous tribute to the work the society was doing and said that the contributions from local bodies was money well spent, as the society was doing a real service to the community. He congratulated the ladies upon their good work in the past and expressed his best wishes for the coming year. The business meetingclosed with a vote of thanks to the chair, after which the committee members served a dainty afternoon tea.
