Booers at Town Hall
When the Hon. Adam Hamilton arrived at the Town Hall on Saturday evening, he was accompanied by two pipers, who had played him through the streets from his hotel. On entering the building he was greeted by applause and booing, which, with the strains of the bagpipes, made an extraordinary effect as the visitor was escorted to the stage. Opponents had_ developed a new booing technique, which consisted of making a buzzing sound through the nose, and they were most insistent in carrying on this objectionable noise. The same thing persisted throughout , the speech, booing and interjections being carried on with few intermissions. On two occasions the Mayor, who occupied the chair, had to make an appeal to the interrupters, who, however, maintained a practice which aroused obvious resentment on the part of the audience.
