Hikurangi Crowns Its Queens There were regal scenes al Hikurangi on Tuesday evening when the crowning ceremony of the winning queen. Miss The-1 ma Adams, was staged. The Criterion Theatre was engaged for the function and was packed to the dcors. First half of the programme was given over to a first class concert. Tteins included n bracket of numbers by the Hikurangi string band under the leadership of Mrs. 11, H. Smith; Items by the Hikurangi mouth- organ band; vocal solos by Mrs. H. Ball and a vocal duet by Messrs Sanft and Pomfrctt. Miss Thora Warrington's troupe of entertainers added much to the enjoyment of the eveningAfter the interval the royal procession and crowning took place. When a rousing march was struck up on the piano, trumpeters, resplendent in scarlet and gold, led the way from the hall. Following them was the archbishop (Mr G. Wilding) and Miss Nellie Tweedie (Trades Queen) and her retinue. The Town Queen (Miss Elsie Hawson) came next With Miss Joyce Newby (Waro Queen) and. the Royal Chancellor (Mr. Nankivell) ranging next in that order. .

The Sports Queert and her followers brought up the rear of the procession, the last man of all being the inevitable Court Jester.

Grouped about the throne the beautifully gowned princesses made a picture both graceful and full of colour. After the' ceremony the newly crowned Queen of Hikurangi presented honours to many followers who had worked so untiringly in her interests. Mr. R. Nisbet then presented to each of the Princeses a gold wristlet watch in recognition of their efforts in the carnival. The success of the function was due to the united efforts of the committed and to Miss Thora Warrington of Whangarei, who was in charge of proceedings-
