Stock Exchange Has Livelier Air

[Special To <c Northern Advocated AUCKLAND, This Day. There was a livelier air about the Stock Exchange this morning than has been the case for some time, and a substantial turnover was recorded, at the first call. Values did not show all-round appreciation and dullness still persisted in, some lines, but the general tone was definitely ; brighter. Conspicuous among the issues that improved was Auckland gas, which, after a fairly long spell at under par, moved up to sale at £l/0/3, and a later market between £l/0/2 and £l/0/6. Australian issues figured more prominently than of late. Woolworths again had an active market, the rights selling up to 3/8, while G. J. Coles registered an advance of 1/10 with business at £4/2/6. British Tobaccos were 6d higher at £2/8/6. There were setbacks in the mining class, Marthas selling at 12/6, the lowest price for a considerable period, whiie Morgans changed hands at 8/10 and 8/9. There was a firm- inquiry for all Government issues at full late rates’. In local body scrip a feature was the offering of five separate issues of Auckland harbour board debentures. Among unlisted scrips there , were sellers or six different issues of New Zealand Products shares. Sales completed at the noon call included: Auckland Gas (con.), 14/-; stock, 1943-46, 4 per cent., £lO2.
