Writing On Wall, Mr. Endean Says

t Special To “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day. “I think the result of the elections shows that the writing is on the wall, and that the people have had their taste of Socialism and are now absolutely opposed to it,” said Mr W. P. Endean, M.P., yesterday. “I feel certain that at the next general elections the Socialists will be turned out of office, for the people want the affairs of the country turned into calm waters.” In Mr Endean’s opinion, the country electorates generally swung from, the Labour Party nine months ago. In the cities and towns the attitude of the people had been possibly uncertain, but the elections just concluded showed that the swing from Socialism was now general. Greater Auckland had a population of about 240,000, and yet the comparatively small districts of Onehunga and New Lynn alone had supported the Socialists. ■ The fact that three out of the four leading cities in the Dominion had turned from Socialism was significant of a trend which showed that peoplewanted to ensure that the best would be done to bring the country through the depression that was coming on the world.
