KAMO RUGBY CLUB IS REVIVED

Between 30 and 40 attended a meeting at Kamo last evening when a decision was made to re-establish the old Kamo Rugby Club. At one time Kamo had one of the strongest clubs in the Whangarei competitions, especially in the days of “Bunny” Finlayson, Sowman, the McDonalds and others, but in recent years has not been represented in any of the grades of the Whangarei Union.

The meeting last night was convened by Mr D. Hart, ex-captain of ’the Old Boys Club, but who is employed in Kamo. The original idea of the promoters had been to form a senior team only, but so great was the interest taken by younger players last night that it was decided to organise junior and fifth grade sides also. No less than 24 boys, it was stated, are anxious to play in the fifth grade team.

Old Colours Wanted.

Application will be made for the retention of black and white, the old colours of the Kamo club, and it was announced that Mr W. J. Brydon had offered to donate a set of jerseys.

The election of resulted: — Patron, Mr W. J. Brydon; president, Mr Jack O’Shea; vice-presidents, Messrs E. -Wilkinson, J. Swann, J. Finlayson, T. Wakelin and E. Harris; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. McGaughey; executive, Messrs D. Hart, A. Fletcher, N. McDonald, H. McDonald and Harris; delegates to Whangarei Rugby Union, Messrs McGaughey and O’Shea.

Mr L. J, Brake, president of the North Auckland Union, and Messrs L, Garry and L. Morgan (president and secretary respectively of the Whangarei Union) were present and extended congratulations and best wishes to the new club. First Practice.

It was decided to hold the first practice at the week-end. A number of players from country districts, surrounding Kamo, who hitherto found difficulty in travelling to play for other clubs, or were deprived of a game altogether, are expected to link up with Kamo.
