Lester Smith, one of the party of 62 Victorian farmers at present touring the Dominion, stated that they were all very interested in the effect that the present Government’s policy is going to have on the New Zealand dairy produce!'. Mr. Lester Smith is a prominent farmer and grazier of Northern Victoria where he is president of Kerang Shire. “With such conditions existing in the towns, how is a farmer going to obtain labour? Men are . hot going to' work 60 hours a week on a farm for less wages ‘than they can get working for only 40 hours a week in the cities.” On his visit to the Ruakura Farm of •Instruction, amazement was registered by Mr. Lester Smith at the amount of stock carried. In Australia there were a number ;of very fertile districts, but these were by no means the area of those in New Zealand. The chairman of the party, the Hon. H. H. Olney, M.L.C., said a lot of very fine sheep had been seen in New Zealand, and he believed that a number of purchases had been made by « number of the party. In order that New Zealand businessmen and primary producers may have the opportunity of gaining a first-hand knowledge of primary and secondary industries in Australia, a return tour has been arranged for naxt year.
