WANT EMPLOYMENT TAX ABOLISHED
Support for the Morrinsvilie branch of the Farmers’ Union in its desire for the abolition of the unemployment tax was given at the meeting of the Whangarei Sub-Provincial Executive to-day. The matter was introduced by a remit from the Waikiekie-Waiotira branch, it being stated: that the country w*as never in a better condition than to-day for the abolishing of the tax. The president, Mr. A. B. Moore, referred to the possibility of ,thc tax constituting the levy for the new superannuation scheme.
A member; If they don’t get it in one way they will get it in another. Mr. H. E. Hewlett: The ,tax was put on as an emergency tax and should new be taken off. There is no excuse for keeping it on in the present state of prosperity. Mr. D. G. Morrison said that the Government was apparently going to transfer the tax to the superannuation scheme and until the air was clarified in regard to the measure, he thought it would be like butting up against a brmk wall in moving as suggested. The motion was carried, however.
