Two empty houses in Alpha Place, Kilburn, London, were set on fire recently by order of the Willesden Council. The council decided to burn the houses as an experiment to prevent the spread of vermin in a slum clearance scheme. It was intendd to carry out the burning in secret, but Press photographers found out and took the picture.
