CATHOLICS NOT PARTY TO ABORTION STATEMENT
(Per Press Association. — Copyright .l WELLINGTON, This Day, Ip a statement issued yesterday, the Rev. Father J. A. Higgins, Director of Social Studies to Archbishop O’Shea, makes the following comment; “On Saturday there was published an important statement by a committee of Wellington citizens, and in the preliminary comment we read that the committee was drawn from the churches, medical and legal professions, educational bodies and social service organisations. , < “Although this remark was not, of course, intended to mislead, - it may have given not a few people an idea that the Catholic Church had had a part in the committee’s deliberations. Such was not the case. “The position is that the Catholic Church would not have consented to the recommendation contained in the committee’s statement. Actually, the committee’s findings are, in many points, in direct contradiction to tba teachings of the Catholic Church.” p
