Bank Shares Improve On ’Change
ISpecial To “Northern Advocate ” 3 AUCKLAND, This Day.
The only notable change the market trend at this morning’s call was a slight improvement in Bank of New Zealand shares. These had been selling down to £2 2/6, but this morning buyers moved up to £2 2/9, without securing supplies, lowest sellers asking £2 3/-. Commercial Banks were quoted a little better, between 16/6 and 16/9.
Government and local body issues were again in demand. The 43—46 4 per cent changed hands, interest, at £lO2 12/6 for the bonds, and 2/6 less for the stock, compared with last sales cum. interest at £lO4, while Birkenhead gas debentures were again placed at £94 10/-.
In the coal section, Westport stock showed a slight improvement, with buyers at 3/- and sellers 4d higher. Peters’ Ice shares were again very firm. Buyers advanced to £1 13/3, bringing in a seller at £1 17/6. Australian industrials were quiet, the only sale being of Colonial Sugar, 2/6 lower, at £46 5/-, and of Woolworlhs (Sydney) at £l/5/6, a 2d rise.
Transactions concluded at the noon call were:—Bank of N.S.W., £32 5/-; Bank of N.Z., £2 ' 2/9; * Westport Stockton, 3/3; Dominion Breweries, £1 17/6; Woolworths (N.Z.), 19/4; Golden Crown, 4/3; Auckland Harbour Board. 9/7/47, £lO3 10/-.
