LABOUR PARTY QUEEN CARNIVAL
The Whangarei branch of the Labour Party is organising a queen carnival contest with the object of raising funds for the election campaign. An organiser, Mr A. Manson, has been appointed and committees are being formed in the various districts to further the project. Five queens will be in the field representing Whangarei town, Hikurangj, Labour Unions, Civil Servants and the Southern Districts, which include Portland, Mangawai, Tauraroa, etc. Only two queens have so far been selected. Miss Stella* Gray, for Whangarei, dnd Miss Gwen Boyd, of Portland, for the Southern Districts. It is intended to launch the carnival in about the third week of this month and the organisation is now well under way. A meeting will be held shortly to complete further details of the event. Mr Manson. the organiser, has had considerable theatrical experience and a play, for which the libretto and scores are ready, will bo staged later. It is expected that the remaining queens will be selected very shortly and the contest started well on its way.
