SWIMMING TEAM SELECTED
[Special To “ Northern Advocate ”J NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. After the New Zealand swimming championships had been completed last night, the Dominion team, for the Empire Games was finalised. As now constituted the side is;— Women. —Gwen Rix (Otago), springboard diving; Mona Leydon (Auckland), 440yds free style; Joyce MacDonald (Southland), 110yds backstroke; Winnie Dunn (Otago), 220yds breaststroke. Men.—P. Hanan and N. H. Crump (both Auckland), 110yds free style; J. C. Davies (Taranaki), 220yds breaststroke: L. Newell (Canterbury), 440yds and 1650yds free style. When the original selection was announced by the New Zealand Swimming' Association on December 17 there was no mention at all of Crump: while it was stated that the nominations of f 5. E. Mathieson (Auckland), C. Cliff (Canterbury), Davies, Newell and Islay Purdie (Otago) were provisional, and subject to confirmation, cancellation or replacement after the New Zealand championships. Apparently, therefore, only two of the provisional selections have been confirmed, Newell and Davies.
