RECORD RAINFALL AT OAMARU
[Special To “Northern Advocate ”l OAMARU, This Day. Heavy rain in the district during the week-end resulted in the highest record for many years, 1.41 inches, falling in less than 16 hours.
The Kakanui and Waitaki Rivers are in high flood. Fortunately, dry winds followed the rain, and most rivers and creeks soon reduced their high levels.
The rain has been most beneficial to farmers, who have been fearing a shortage of winter feed.
Excessive rains in the Geraldine area have resulted in considerable damage to crops. Many farmers consider their losses will be very great. Owing to the sodden state of the ground on most farms, it will be some time before harvest machines can operate. Grass seed has also been spoiled.
