HOLIDAY RAIL TRAFFIC WILL BE RECORD
[Special To “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Indications that the holiday rail traffic will establish a record for the Dominion when the final figures are available, were given by the General Manager of Railways, Mr, G. H. Mackley, yesterday. Excellent weather, together with improvements in conditions generally, had resulted in an unprecedented movement in the department’s passenger business, Mr. Mackley stated. On the Main Trunk line in both Islands, traffic had been very heavy indeed.
“All of the main centres throughout the system have experienced probably one of their busiest Christmases,” said Mr. Mackley. “It is estimated that the gross revenue for the current financial year ending March 31, 1938, will establish a record in the history of the New Zealand Railways.
