Trend Of Wool Values At Wellington
[Per Press Association. Copyright .] WELLINGTON, This Day. The second Wellington wool sale this season opened this morning with & total catalogue of 28,444 bales. Interest in the market was well displayed in the fine wool section, up to being paid in the early stages for fine crossbred AA ewes, but medium crossbreds made from lOd to lid, and on ly id to |d over these prices was realised for hogget wool. As the sale proceeded, it became apparent that many growers had the idea that the market was better than it proved to be. ' Passings were frequent, and in some line after line was so dealt with, but it did not follow that sales were not effected after the hammer fell. Some idea of the course of the market may be gained from the prices realised towards noon. Superfine crossbred made 12|d to 14d; fine crossbred, lljd to 12|d; medium crossbred, ll|d to 12d; low crossbred, lOd to 113 d; coarse crossbred, 9|d to lOd; bellies and pieces sold from 8d to 9|d, with 10d to 10|d for some particular lines. Keen Demand for Lambs’ Woo! Crutchings sold from 8d to 9|d; necks, 9d to 103 d; Southdown sold from lOd to 12|d; Romney, 9|d to }o3d; Lincoln, lOd to 10|d; halfbred, 10d to 13d; three-quarter bred, lOd to ll|d. Two lots, each of four bales of hne crossbreds, made 115|d. The demand for good lines of lambs’ wool was keen. Prices ranged from 10fd to 12|d, and 1 for superior lines from 13|d to 153 d. Prices given are examples, but not conclusive or official. The sale is proceeding with vigour at noon, but buyers’ limits still appeared to be rigidly fixed.
