DECIDING DEAD BOWLS. The secretary of the Kensington Bowling Club received a letter from a Kaitaia player a day or two ago. in reference to the recent tournament. The Canterbury men retained the shield by seven rubbers to four, one doubles" match being unfinished and the ladies won the casket match by eight rubbers to four. LONG-DISTANCE SWIM. Fourteen competitors, well representative of New Zealand swimming centres, contested the Annette Kcllerman Cup race yesterday in a choppy sea over a three miles course. F. Clow, New Plymouth, finished first and the previous holder of the Cup. G. Robertson, of Westport, was third. A. Pettigrew'. of Stratford, was second. Among the six competitors to finish the course was G. Usher, the one-legged Auckland swimmer. LOWERED HER RECORD. Competing in the 90 yards ladies' hurdles at the Danncvirke Amateur Club’s annual meeting, Miss R. Tong. Hastings, holder of the New Zealand record for the event, succeeded in lowering the existing figures of 15 sees by 2-5 seconds in the final. Miss Tfing, one of the Dominion representatives for the Empire Games, ran the distance in 14 3-5 secs, finishing very strongly and winning by several yards. An application is to be made for recognition of the times as a'Now Zealand record.

SANDERS CUP TRIALS. Two races to decide the boat and crew to represent Auckland in the annual contest for the Sanders Memorial Cup, were held on Saturday afternoon, and a further race was staged during the week-end. The first race on Saturday was won by Ailecn and the second by Endeavour. One of the crew of the Endeavour fell overboard In the first race. The boat was smartly rounded up and the man rescued. The, final race was won by Aileen which defeated Endeavour by one minute. Four trial races have now been held to decide the Auckland challenger, three races being won by Aileen and one by Endeavour. Aileen represented Auckland in 1936.
