NORTHLAND SAID TO BE ELECTRICITY-MINDED

Northland is electricity-minded these days.and, constantly, the North Auckland Power Boat'd receives requests for power in districts all over Northland.

At its meeting yesterday letters on this subject were received from Maungakaramea, Raumanga, Kioreroa and Waiotira, while the Maungaturoto branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union requested a canvass and survey of the Marohemo. Bailey and Whakaplrau districts, with a view to obtaining a supply of power. These letters were all passed over to the engineer. Mr W. Collins wanted to know if the engineer could give some definite indication, as the Farmers’ Union had approached him. Mr T. R. Overton, engineer, said he would have to make investigations before giving an opinion. "If we took the canvassers off their present work, we would not get very far,” he said. Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay asked if the policy of the board —taking places in the.jr order —was being adhered to. The chairman, Mr J. A. McLean: The best places are being investigated first.

Mr F. Elliott referred to some people in the Kauri district who had not been linked up. In putting the line from Kauri to Hikurangi, he said, the deviation had been followed and eight people who wanted supplies had been cut out. He wondered if there was any possibility of their getting electricity at an early date. All were handy to the main Hikurangi-Kauri road. This matter also was referred to the engineer.
