Big game fishermen from all parts of the world had a great week-end’s jspdrt at Russell, some very fine catches being brought in from Cape Brett and the surrounding waters. Fishing from the launch Rosemary,

M. Jean Beaurang, of France, landed two striped marlin weighing respectively 3181bs and 27i31bs, while Miss Scott, a visitor from England, landed two striped marlin weighing 2721bs and 2631b5. From the same launch Mr P. F. Nielsen, hi Copenhagen, brought in a marlin weighing 3121b5,

Mr Hugh Wright, of Auckland, fishing off the launch Valhalla, brought in. a 3061 b, striped marlin, while Mr H. A. Ramsay, of Auckland, brought in £> 2331 b. specimen.

A Canadian’s Catch

A Canadian fisherman, Mr E. H. Morrison, of British Columbia, brought in a striped marlin of 2311b5. when fishing off the launch Lorna Doone. From the launch Katherin 3, Mr E. C. Blomfield landed a striped marlin weighing 2171b5., while, from the Alma G, Messrs Pe<ter Maxwell and H. E. Haines, both of Auckland, brought in catches registered 269 and 27libs, respectively. Another successful launch was the Marlin, from which some good catches were made. A visitor from Germany, Mir Otto Sommer, landed a striped marlin which weighed in at 2731b5, and another registering ISOlbs. Mr J. L. Blackmore, of Auckland, added a little variety to the species of bait-biters by bringing in a mako shark of 4111bs.

Apart from the large numbers of fishermen at Russell this year, the Bay has been the meeting place of yachtsmen from different parts of the North Island, there being at one time during the week-end no fewer than 25 keelers at anchor.

Several yachtsmen who visited the Bay for the first time expressed the opinion that it was destined to be one of the most popular yachting havens in New Zealand, and was worth travelling long distances to see,

Some of Auckland’s best launches have visited Russell this year, the week-end having seen Sir Cecil Leys’ and. Mr C. Court's launches both in the Bay.
