AUCKLAND TOO GOOD FOR RODNEY

Cricket

I Special To “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND. This Day.

The Auckland Country Week tournament was continued yesterday on the Auckland Domain.

Auckland fielded a strong side against Rodney, and ran up a big total. Rodney made a game effort to reach the Auckland score, but there was too much indecision in the running between wickets and three of the e'arly batsmen were run out. Auckland gained a first innings

victory. In the match between Franklin and Selwyn Oraka, the latter appeared to have a chance of an outright win, but Franklin played out time to lose on the first innings.

On the third day of Country Week cricket games, interest centred in the match between Rodney and the Sel-v/yn-Oraka team from Putaruru, both winners -on former days. On this game rested the fate of the Hellaby Shield, for competition amongst country teams. The Rodney men had first innings, and shaped uncomfortably to the Putaruru bowling, their first six wickets falling for 32 runs. The Innings (one man short) ended just before noon for 81 runs. At lunch, Putaruru had lost two wickets for 2(5 runs, and an interesting fight for the runs was in prospect. RODNEY.—First Innings.
