“TASMAN SEA IS NOT DIFFICULT”
-CAPTAIN BURGESS
[Special To “ Northern Advocate ”1 AUCKLAND, This Day.
“The approach offered by the Waitemata to flying-boats is perfectly satisfactory; first-class in fact.’’
“The Tasman is: no more diffi-
cult to fly than any other ocean.”
“There is no difficulty as far as the ‘flying of that sea is concerned, to the inception of a trans-Tasman service.”
These three remarks of Captain Burgess, interviewed soon after he stepped ashore, are perhaps of most interest to Aucklanders' He added that soon he hoped to see a service across the ocean a regular feature. He was glad to be here, but the trip across had been entirely without incident. They had not even seen a ship.
“I ana delighted to be home,” said Captain Burgess when he entered his hotel. “Tire machine performed wonderfully—not a break or stoppage throughout. lam well satisfied.” He explained that he was not in a position to comment on the prospects for the service, when it will begin, or the practicability of that type of fly-ing-boat for the service, as those were policy questions. “Now I would like some tea,” he smilingly concluded.
