CRAMM BEATS BUDGE IN EXHIBITION MATCH

Tennis

(Received 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day

A three-days’ tennis match between Australia and Germany commenced yesterday. The contest between Quist and von Cramm was cancelled to permit Sydney people to witness the world’s two leading players—Budge (America) and von Cramm opposed in v. three-set exhibition.

Bromwich defeated Henkel, 6-1, 6-4. Von Cramm defeated Budge, 6-1, 6-3. Bromwich was superior to Henkel in all departments, with the exception of the service. He foi'ced the German wide with pacy ground shots, and scored winning points in the vacant court.

Henkel's fastest serves and drop shots were easily returned, while he was repeatedly passed at the net.

The exhibition match was a very poor affair. Budge did not exert

himself at any stage, and appeared

uninterested. Von Oramm served magnificently, and otherwise was steady.
