GOOD FORM IN BRABIN CUP CONTEST

That both Auckland and Wellington have plenty of promising cricket material was evident from the bright form shown at the Basin Reserve yesterday when the annual match for the Brabin Cup commenced between junior teams representing the two provinces.

The cup contest is confined to players under 21 years. Auckland has held the trophy for the past two years. Auckland had first use of an easy wicket and ran up the respectable total of 259, a feature of which was the sound score of 111 not out by W. Snedden. He is a son of N. C, Sneddon. who for many years played for Auckland and New Zealand with conspicuous success. The son promises to perpetuate an honoured cricketing name.

The Wellington players distinguished themselves by brilliant groundfielding and accurate returns. The bowling was steady without • being deadly.

The Wellington innings began at 3.20 p.m. and when stumps were drawn the home team had made the splendid start of 209 for three wickets. Details:—
