Auckland • “Country Week,” under the auspices of the Auckland Cricket Association, was commenced at the Domain cricket ground today in fine weather and on fast wickets.

Two matches were opened this morning, Franklin, meeting Rodney, and Whangarei playing Selwyn Oraka, a club team from Putaruru.

In the latter match, the Putaruru players showed admirable bowling ability, and dismissed Whangarei in a little over an hour for 57 runs, Ivan Cooper being the only batsman able to play Callachan. who got four wickets for 21 runs.

Putaruru lost their first two wickets cheaply, but B. Lowry and Callachan put up a third wicket partnership that carried the total past Whangarei’s score, and at lunch time 76 runs were up for four wickets. Whangarei v. Putaruru, WHANGAREI.
